This activity enriches the imagination and builds social skills. Participants take on the role of a character they must bring to life on stage. While practicing and performing, performing arts enthusiasts learn how to present themselves in an amazing way. I will use this site to explore all of these benefits and more. At first glance, a dance class may not seem like much, but there is a lot more going on in the mind, body, and life of each individual than meets the eye. Dance classes can be one avenue in which to accomplish many desirable characteristics and attributes. It can be especially important for children and teenagers to take dance classes in order to learn things that may help them throughout their lives, such as the following:

  • Confidence: Any time an individual sees in themselves potential, improvement, and skill, confidence can build. As individuals build upon these skills and are successful in performing, confidence improves and can spread to different areas of their lives.
  • Physical health: Dance is a perfect way to stay in shape. The body is an amazing piece of work and is capable of so much when it is taken care of.
  • Agility: The ability to stretch, bend, leap, and do the splits are all part of being a dancer. Such agility will aid in the physical health, confidence, and performance of the individual.
  • Happiness: Joy is found in music and movement. Whether it is for pure enjoyment or work, the art of dance brings joy to the individual and others that watch performances.
  • Stress Reliever: Stress is released as we do things we enjoy and also when we do physical activities that release specific chemicals to our brains.
  • Team building: Working with others on a dance team is a great learning experience. Even if dancing solo, you are are part of a team and may have familial support as well.
  • Following Instructions/discipline: It is a great skill to learn to listen and comply with authority throughout all areas of life and it can start in a simple dance class.
  • Hard work: Practice leads to greater accomplishment. Dance is not a piece of cake and requires great effort which can transfer to other areas of life at work or home.

The list could continue and each list would be different depending on the individual. However, it is easy to see that dance, whether ballet or hip hop, does more than meets the eye. It is not just a hobby or past time. It is for individuals of all ages, whether it is a three year-old beginning their first jazz class with a group of best friends or a ninety year-old, seasoned veteran showing off her splits and can-can line at the local football game at half-time. The benefits of dancing can last throughout the years.
